A beautiful Sajou faux tortoiseshell thimble that matches the Sajou faux tortoiseshell scissors that I have available. The thimble is a perfect collectors item, but is also suitable for sewing small items.

This thimble is a replica of the thimbles found in sewing boxes of the Charles X era (1820- 1830).

The thimbles are a truncated cone in terms of form and have a base diameter of 1.5 cm.

This is part of a range of Sajou scissors thread cards and thimbles made with imitation luxury materials in the style of the fine decorative arts of bygone days. They are made with cellulose acetate, a natural plastic material made from cotton flower and wood pulp.

Sajou produce haberdashery items made in France to the highest standards (in some cases even produced on the original old machinery). Perfect for gifts and collectors, and for those of you unable to resist a quality that is seldom found in todays mass produced haberdashery products.

Sajou was created in 1828 by Jaques- Simon Sajou, selling haberdashery for embroidery, tapestry, lace, crochet and weaving. His pattern albums are sought after to this day by collectors worldwide. In 2005 the Sajou brand was purchased and revived by avid collector; Frederique Crestin- Billet. Many of the old designs have been faithfully reproduced and there are some new designs that have been added in the Sajou style.
