A lovely Regency Period frame kitted and beaded sovereign purse with a pinchbeck sterling silver repousse frame.
The purse has the word 'VENEZ' above a motif of a gondolier to one side and a floral design to the other side and is Italian by design. The frame is sterling silver and has a British hallmark, which although worn can be dated to 1824. There is a hoop to the back of the purse, probably for attaching to a chatelaine for safe keeping
This is the type of souvenir that would be purchased during the Grand Tours that were fashionable at that time.
The purse is in very good condition for it's age. There are some missing beads and the lover tassel has been replaced by a later date glass pearl bead. The lining is a plain ivory coloured fabric and also looks to be a later replacement. there is some very minor tarnish to some of the beads, the lining is in excellent condition.
