A beautiful Sajou Mauchaline Ware Scottish Tartan thimble that matches the Sajou Tartan Mauchaline Ware inspired scissors that I have available. The thimble is a perfect collectors item, but is also suitable for sewing small items.

The thimble contains real tartan fabric trapped between two layers of cellulose.

This thimble is a replica of the thimbles found in sewing boxes of the Charles X era (1820- 1830).

The thimbles are a truncated cone in terms of form and have a base diameter of 1.5 cm.

This is part of a range of Sajou scissors and thimbles made with imitation luxury materials in the style of the fine decorative arts of bygone days. They are made with cellulose acetate, a natural plastic material made from cotton flower and wood pulp.

Sajou was created in 1828 by Jaques- Simon Sajou, selling haberdashery for embroidery, tapestry, lace, crochet and weaving. His pattern albums are sought after to this day by collectors worldwide. In 2005 the Sajou brand was purchased and revived by avid collector; Frederique Crestin- Billet. Many of the old designs have been faithfully reproduced and there are some new designs that have been added in the Sajou style.
