Description and Details
A beautiful Sajou Museum and Heritage Colletion cross stitch kit with two charts for two separate embroideries showing scenes from The Bayeux Tapestry.
The chart shown to the top is of Aelfyva, the only woman shown in the whole of the tapestry. Her identity is shrouded in mystery, but it is thought that her presence in the tapestry is intended as a slur on the Anglo Saxons, perhaps insinuating 'inappropriate' behaviour of Anglo Saxon Ladies.
The second chart shows the crowning of King Harold following the death of King Edward.
The kit contains;
The charts for working the embroideries
7 cards of Laine St Pierre embroidery wool
2 pieces of 32 count linen embroidery fabric in sand colour required to complete the charts.
The size of each motif is 88 x 73 points.
If sewn onto 32 count (12 threads per cm) embroidery linen the size of each motif would be 15 x 12.5 cm.
The pattern chart is is printed in matt and can be written on should you need to mark any references.
There are other embroidery charts and kits inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry, which can be found in my shop along with other embroidery charts and kits inspired by the designs and history of Toile du Jouy.
Sajou produce haberdashery items made in France to the highest standards (in some cases even produced on the original old machinery). Perfect for gifts and collectors, and for those of you unable to resist a quality that is seldom found in today's mass produced haberdashery products.
Sajou was created in 1828 by Jaques- Simon Sajou, selling haberdashery for embroidery, tapestry, lace, crochet and weaving. His pattern albums are sought after to this day by collectors worldwide. In 2005 the Sajou brand was purchased and revived by avid collector; Frederique Crestin- Billet. Many of the old designs have been faithfully reproduced and there are some new designs that have been added in the Sajou style.
Materials: 32 Count Embroidery Linen, Cross Stitch Chart, Laine St Pierre Embroidery Wool.
